Happy Foster Care Awareness Month!

Learn how we have been celebrating!

This month has been especially significant as we joined the nation in celebrating Foster Care Awareness Month. It was a time to raise awareness, honor the resilience of foster youth, and recognize the unwavering dedication of foster families, caregivers, and advocates.

As we shined a spotlight on the foster care system, we invite you to join us in advocating for positive change and supporting the incredible young people we serve. Whether through donating, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, your involvement is crucial to creating a brighter future for foster youth.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our mission. Together, we are making a lasting impact and ensuring that every foster youth has the opportunity to thrive.

Foster Care Awareness Month Highlights

We kicked off the month with an incredible move-in event at Riverside Square in East Providence. With the support of the New England Patriots and Bob’s Discount Furniture, three former foster youth moved into their new apartments in ONE Neighborhood Builders' 16-unit property.

Patriots players lent a helping hand, bringing donated essentials and assisting with the move-in process. Bob’s Discount Furniture went above and beyond by fully furnishing all three apartments with pieces selected by the new tenants themselves. This collaborative effort has provided these young adults with a comfortable and welcoming home as they start this new chapter in their lives.

Snipes celebrated the grand opening of their new location in East Providence by inviting ten former foster youth to join the festivities. Each youth received $190 to spend at the store, making for an exciting shopping spree. The event was a blast, filled with music, food, and fun! We are thrilled to welcome Snipes to the East Providence community and deeply grateful for their generosity in creating such a memorable experience for our youth.

Our foster families enjoyed several exciting outings! Thanks to DCYF, all foster families in the state were treated to a special event at Roger Williams Park Zoo. Additionally, a group of our foster families had the fantastic opportunity to attend the New England Revolution MLS game at Gillette Stadium against New York City. These memorable experiences brought joy and fun to our wonderful foster families!

We were thrilled to welcome some special visitors to Foster Forward! DCYF Director Ashley Deckert and Department of Labor and Training Director Matt Weldon joined us and had the opportunity to sit down with former foster youth in our podcast studio. Stay tuned, as we look forward to sharing their insightful conversations with you in the coming weeks!

We celebrated the incredible achievements of many former foster youth who graduated from various programs, including high school, trade school, flight school, and more. Among them, we proudly spotlight Tiffanie, who earned her Master's in Social Work from RIC, and Kiara, who recently graduated from Foster Forward’s GED program. We are immensely proud of all these individuals for their dedication and hard work!
